Meet Lauren
I am a counseling psychologist, educator, consultant, healthcare leader, and advocate who is passionate about strengthening our profession through collaboration, service, and meaningful engagement.
Throughout my career, I have worked across clinical practice, healthcare leadership, organized psychology, legislative advocacy, and multicultural leadership. These experiences have given me the opportunity to work with psychologists from diverse backgrounds, specialties, and career stages, while developing a deep appreciation for the many ways psychology serves individuals, communities, and society.
I currently serve as the Nevada Representative to the APA Council of Representatives and previously served as President of the Nevada Psychological Association. My leadership within organized psychology has been guided by a commitment to listening, learning, and building connections across perspectives.
As a psychologist, I have worked in clinical, forensic, academic, and healthcare settings. These experiences have shaped my belief that our profession is strongest when we embrace diverse viewpoints, support emerging leaders, and work together toward shared goals.
Whether mentoring students and early career psychologists, engaging in advocacy efforts, or contributing to professional governance, I am committed to helping create opportunities for psychologists to find their voice and participate meaningfully in shaping the future of our profession.
I believe psychology's greatest strength lies in its people. By connecting diverse perspectives, empowering future leaders, and fostering collaboration across specialties and settings, we can continue building a stronger and more impactful profession.
Why I'm Running
One of the greatest lessons I have learned through my involvement in organized psychology is that our profession is stronger when we take the time to listen to one another.
Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working across clinical practice, healthcare leadership, forensic psychology, advocacy, education, and professional governance. These experiences have shown me that psychologists often approach the same issues from different perspectives, shaped by their specialties, practice settings, career stages, and lived experiences. Yet despite those differences, we share a common commitment to advancing psychology and serving the communities who rely on us.
I am running for the Council Leadership Team because I believe some of our greatest opportunities lie in bringing those perspectives together. Too often, psychologists work within specialty areas, professional settings, or leadership circles that can feel disconnected from one another. When we create opportunities to listen, learn, and collaborate across those differences, we strengthen both our decision-making and our profession.
I am also deeply committed to helping students, trainees, and early career psychologists find their voice within APA. Many of us entered psychology because we wanted to make a difference, yet navigating organized psychology can feel overwhelming and inaccessible. I want emerging psychologists to see themselves reflected in leadership, understand how APA governance impacts their future, and feel empowered to contribute their ideas and expertise.
If elected, I hope to help foster a Council that is collaborative, engaged, and connected to the diverse experiences of psychologists across our profession. Our world is changing, and psychology has an important role to play in meeting the challenges ahead. I would be grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the important work of the Council Leadership Team.

I am committed to fostering dialogue across specialties, practice settings, career stages, and lived experiences to ensure Council's decisions reflect the diverse voices that make our profession stronger.
Supporting Transparent and Effective Governance
Council plays a critical role in shaping APA's future. I support transparent communication, thoughtful deliberation, and strategic decision-making that aligns with APA's mission and long-term goals. Effective governance requires both leadership and collaboration, and I am committed to helping Council remain responsive, informed, and forward-thinking.
Empowering Future Leaders
Students, trainees, and early career psychologists are the future of psychology. I am passionate about creating opportunities for emerging leaders to engage in APA governance, understand how decisions are made, and see themselves as valued contributors to our profession. Strengthening mentorship, accessibility, and pathways to leadership benefits both individuals and APA as a whole.
Moving Beyond Silos
Psychologists often work in different settings and specialties with limited opportunities to learn from one another. Yet many of the challenges facing our profession cut across those boundaries. I hope to support efforts that encourage collaboration, shared learning, and stronger connections across the many areas of psychology.

As our profession continues to evolve, psychology has an important role to play in addressing the needs of individuals, communities, and society. I believe APA is strongest when we bring together diverse perspectives, support one another's growth, and work collectively to advance the science, practice, and public impact of psychology.
Advocacy & Public Service
One of the reasons I became involved in organized psychology is because I believe our profession has an important voice and responsibility beyond the therapy room, classroom, research lab, or workplace. Psychology has the ability to improve lives, strengthen communities, and inform the policies and systems that affect us all.
Growing up, I did not always see leaders who made me feel that my voice belonged at the table. That experience continues to shape how I lead today. I strive to create opportunities for others to be heard, contribute, and see themselves as future leaders within our profession.
Throughout my career, I have sought opportunities to serve both the profession and the public through advocacy, leadership, education, and community engagement. Whether working with policymakers, collaborating with colleagues, mentoring students and early career psychologists, or participating in professional governance, I have always been motivated by a desire to help psychology have a meaningful and lasting impact.
As Nevada's Federal Advocacy Coordinator and through my involvement in state-level advocacy efforts, I have had the privilege of helping elevate the voice of psychology on issues that matter to psychologists and the communities we serve. These experiences have reinforced my belief that meaningful change happens when we listen, build relationships, and work together toward common goals.
Service has also been a guiding value throughout my leadership journey. Through my work with APA, the Nevada Psychological Association, and the National Multicultural Conference and Summit, I have been fortunate to collaborate with passionate colleagues from across our profession. These experiences have deepened my appreciation for the many ways psychologists contribute to society and the importance of creating spaces where diverse perspectives can be heard and valued.
At its core, advocacy is about people. It is about ensuring that voices are heard, perspectives are considered, and psychology continues to serve as a force for positive change. I am proud to contribute to that work and remain committed to serving both our profession and the communities that depend on it.
Building Bridges Across Psychology
One of the things I value most about psychology is the diversity of perspectives within our profession. We don't just serve these communities, we live in them.
We bring different specialties, training experiences, career paths, identities, and lived experiences to our work. While those differences can sometimes create challenges, they are also one of our greatest strengths.
Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to work across clinical practice, forensic psychology, healthcare leadership, advocacy, education, and organized psychology. These experiences have taught me that some of our most meaningful growth happens when we move beyond our individual circles and take the time to learn from one another.
I believe psychology is strongest when students feel welcomed into the profession, when early career psychologists feel empowered to contribute, when experienced leaders remain open to new perspectives, and when psychologists from different specialties work together toward shared goals.
Building bridges begins with listening. It requires curiosity, humility, and a willingness to engage with perspectives that may differ from our own. Some of the most valuable lessons I have learned throughout my leadership journey have come from conversations with people whose experiences and viewpoints were different from mine.
My commitment to diversity, inclusion, belonging, and representation is rooted in this belief. Every psychologist should feel that their voice matters and that they have a place within our profession. By creating opportunities for dialogue, collaboration, mentorship, and leadership development, we strengthen not only individual psychologists but psychology as a whole.
As our profession continues to evolve, I hope to contribute to a culture that values connection over division, collaboration over silos, and understanding over assumptions. Together, we can build a stronger and more inclusive future for psychology.
